Kuching's HOTTEST New Condo? Jazz Suites 1 (Cozy & Chic!)

Jazz Suites 1: Kuching's Cozy & Chic Chaos! (My Honest Review)

Okay, folks, let's cut the fluff. I've just survived - and mostly thrived - a stay at Jazz Suites 1 in Kuching. And let me tell you, after navigating the Kuching traffic, which is, shall we say, an experience, this place offers a welcome haven. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. Is it worth it? Buckle up, buttercups, because this is going to be a rollercoaster.

Accessibility: The Labyrinthine Journey of Getting In & Out (and Up & Down).

Okay, so, "accessible" in Kuching is… well, it's still a work in progress. Getting to Jazz Suites 1 was fine – thankfully, Grab (the local ride-sharing app) is your best friend here. Once I arrived I had to ask directions from the staff because it wasn't that clear. On the inside, there’s an elevator. They do have a decent car park. I am not in a wheelchair myself, but I did see a few ramps, which is promising! I think it's mostly okay, but best to double check if you have serious mobility requirements.

On-Site Restaurants & Lounges (The Foodie's Fight for Deliciousness):

Right, let's talk food! On-site, you've got a few options. The restaurant – well, I'll be honest, it's not Michelin-star material. But! They do have a decent buffet for breakfast. The Asian breakfast items were surprisingly good, with a genuinely delicious Nasi Lemak (coconut rice with all the fixings). The coffee/tea options were plentiful, and the vegetarian restaurant was decent, although I'm not a vegetarian! I got a coffee and a snack. Prices are okay, but not cheap.

Wheelchair Accessibility (Still a Bit of a Grey Area):

I mentioned this above. The elevators are a plus. The public areas seem wheelchair-friendly, but I'd recommend contacting the hotel directly to confirm details. I’m not a wheelchair user, so my observations are limited.

Internet Access (The Wi-Fi Whisperer!):

Okay, this is important. "Free Wi-Fi in all rooms!" – and it actually works! Thank heavens. I also had a stable Internet [LAN] connection when I used my laptop. Internet Services were good in the main reception area. Also Wi-Fi in public areas worked alright when I got in a spot with no people. They also have Wi-Fi for special events, but I did not see any of them (so I can't comment if it's any good).

Things to Do & Ways to Relax (Spa Days & Poolside Dreams – Maybe?):

Alright, this is where things start to get interesting. Swimming pool [outdoor] is a highlight. The Pool with a view is actually rather stunning! The Spa is kinda nice but it gets pretty busy. I've never seen so many people getting a Massage at once. Body scrub was a bit harsh, but hey, at least I felt cleaner! I didn't get to the Sauna , Steamroom, or Foot bath, because the queue was crazy. I went to the Fitness center and it was too busy (and I didn't want to be with all those sweaty people anyway). I was hoping for more of a relaxing atmosphere.

Cleanliness & Safety (Anti-Viral Armor!):

Now, safety is paramount, especially these days. They're trying, bless their hearts. Rooms sanitized between stays. Daily disinfection in common areas. They had Hand sanitizer everywhere, and the staff were very keen on wearing masks. Anti-viral cleaning products are supposed to be used. They have CCTV in common areas and CCTV outside property, which is a plus. There's a First aid kit, which is comforting. Daily housekeeping seems mostly thorough. I didn’t feel unsafe and that's the most important part.

Dining, Drinking, & Snacking (The Culinary Adventure!):

Okay, let's dive deeper into the food. The Breakfast [buffet] was good, as I said. The Breakfast service, so-so. The A la carte in restaurant was okay - but it wasn't outstanding. Asian cuisine in restaurant was well done. The Coffee shop was pretty good, and the Snack bar was also welcome. They even have a Desserts in restaurant . Happy hour drinks prices weren't too bad. The Poolside bar offers pretty alright food. A Vegetarian restaurant is available, of course. Bottle of water provided, that's always a good thing. Room service [24-hour] is available, which is handy. There's also a Salad in restaurant and a Soup in restaurant.

Services & Conveniences (The Little Things That Matter!):

So many things here! Air conditioning in public area is a must in Kuching. It was pretty good as well. Concierge was helpful. And the cash withdrawal machine worked. Convenience store is a lifesaver, trust me. Daily housekeeping was fine. They have an Elevator of course. There is Ironing service and Laundry service. They have a Meeting/banquet facilities, but I didn't use them. Luggage storage is there. The Safety deposit boxes are available. The Smoking area is a plus. Xerox/fax in business center – handy for some, I guess!

For the Kids (Family Fun?):

I didn't have any kids with me, but they have a Babysitting service, which is good. They have Kids facilities too - I am not sure what that is, but it sounds exciting.

Available in All Rooms (The Cozy Sanctuary):

Air conditioning, thank goodness! Alarm clock, useful for some mornings! Bathrobes, love them! Bathrooms were clean. Blackout curtains, amazing. Closet, yes! Coffee/tea maker, a must! Complimentary tea, yay! Daily housekeeping, yes! Desk, necessary. Extra long bed, always a plus! Free bottled water, essential! Hair dryer, necessary! In-room safe box, a must. Internet access – wireless, worked fine. Ironing facilities, helpful. Mini bar, okay. Non-smoking, standard these days. Private bathroom, of course. Refrigerator, handy. Satellite/cable channels, good. Seating area, good. Shower, good. Smoke detector, good. Soundproofing, the most important! Telephone, good. Toiletries, good. Towels, yes. Wake-up service, yes! Wi-Fi [free], excellent. Window that opens, ah, the little things!

My Quirky Observations & Emotional Reactions:

Okay, let's get real. I had a little moment of frustration when I couldn't find a parking spot on my first day, and then I found out my car was blocking a tiny service lane. It wasn't my fault, the sign was misleading. Also, the sauna was way too crowded.

But you know what? The pool is seriously gorgeous. The staff were friendly, even when I was being a grumpy tourist. And the bed? Oh, the bed! It was like sleeping on a cloud.

My Honest-to-Goodness, Totally Unfiltered, Jazz Suites 1 Verdict:

Look, Jazz Suites 1 has its quirks. It's not perfect. There are a few hiccups here and there. But it’s charming. It’s cozy. It’s a great base to discover the best of Kuching!

Okay, buckle up, buttercups, because this isn't your sterile, perfectly-formatted Tripadvisor itinerary. This is real life travel in Kuching, Sarawak, from my cozy (hopefully!) Jazz Suites 1 apartment at TR Vivacity Megamall. Let's get messy, shall we?

Kuching Kuching, Here I Come! (And Hopefully, I Won't Get Eaten by a Crocodile…Again)

Day 1: Orientation & Carb Overload (Sponsored by Rice!)

  • Morning (Let's Pretend I Wake Up Early): 8:00 AM - Alarm blares. Ugh. Finally drag myself out of that ridiculously comfortable bed in Jazz Suites. Seriously, the beds here are like… hugging a cloud. Or maybe I'm just severely sleep-deprived from the flight. Gotta figure out which.

    • 9:00 AM - Grocery Run! Vivacity Megamall is right there. Pure convenience! I need supplies. Instant noodles (duh), local fruits I can’t pronounce, and something… anything… for breakfast that ISN'T instant noodles. Mental note: learn basic Malay greetings. "Terima kasih" is a good start, right?
    • 10:00 AM - Breakfast Debacle: So, that breakfast I bought? Turns out the “exotic fruit” I excitedly grabbed was durian and I opened it In my room without knowing what it was, it was a disaster, I nearly threw up. The smell? Oh, the smell. It’s like…feet? But worse. I'm going to need like, a hazmat suit for the rest of the trip. Seriously, how do people eat this?!
    • 10:30 AM - Recovery & Resupply. Gotta get this durian smell outta here! Grabbed some air freshener (thank goodness for the mall!). Still hungry, now, where to get some good food near me.
  • Afternoon: City Exploration (Mostly From the Car)

    • 12:00 PM - Lunch time! The food court in Vivacity is a sprawling wonderland. Too much to choose from! Settled on laksa Sarawak because, you know, authenticity. Wow. The broth! The noodles! The shrimp! My taste buds are having a party. This is what all the hype is about!
    • 1:30 PM - Taxi Troubles? Attempt to hail a Grab (the local ride-hailing app). Turns out, my phone's data is being… temperamental. Cue minor panic. Walked around a bit. Eventually got a ride to the Kuching Waterfront.
    • 2:00 PM - Waterfront Wanderings: The Waterfront is pretty. But HOT. Like, melting-into-a-puddle-of-sweat hot. Took some pics of the Astana (Sultan's palace, I think?) but honestly spent more time plotting my escape to a place with AC.
    • 3:00 PM - Cat Statues and Confusion: Kuching is the City of Cats, but there's a surprising lack of cats. Lots of statues, though. Took a few pictures of a cat statue, which reminded me that I'd forgotten to take a picture of the waterfall. I decided to rest for a bit in a nearby cafe.
    • 5:00 PM - Afternoon Snacks and a Small Adventure to the Central Market - Had some traditional kueh that I could actually pronounce this time around. Really tasty! Went back to the room to rest up a bit.
    • 6:00 PM - Head out to find the Central Market, the market scene was very interesting, and I got a hold of some tasty fruits.
  • Evening: Food Glorious Food (and More Laksa!)

    • 7:30 PM - Dinner at a local restaurant. I think it's good. I'm still slightly traumatized by the durian. Ate so much rice that I could probably qualify for the next Olympic weightlifting competition.
    • 9:00 PM - Back to Jazz Suites. Collapsed onto the heavenly bed. The AC is working overtime. Bliss. Mental note: Stock up on insect repellent. These Sarawak mosquitos are relentless!

Day 2: Culture Shock (and Hopefully, No More Durian) - or, "How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Longhouse"

  • Morning (Actually Woke Up Early!) 8:00 AM - Breakfast at a local cafe. So much less stressful than trying to cook.

    • 9:00 AM - Bako National Park I booked a tour to Bako National Park. The boat ride was, shall we say, spirited. The waves were rocking the boat. And I started contemplating my life choices. The jungle trek was hot and humid, but worth it to see the Proboscis monkeys (those noses!).
    • 1:00 PM - Lunch break, I had some food by the restaurant in the park. The food was so great I had to order more!
  • Afternoon: Cultural Immersion (Attempted)

    • 2:00 PM - Longhouse Visit. Today was a tour to a Bidayuh longhouse (a traditional communal dwelling). This was by far my favorite part of the trip. The people were incredibly welcoming. They put on the food and the dancing. I even tried their local rice wine. Let's just say it's potent.
    • 5:00 PM - Getting Around: The traffic can be a lot, and it's definitely not like driving anywhere else. It's also easy to get around with ride-sharing apps.
  • Evening: Wind Down

    • 6:00 PM - Dinner and drinks at a nearby restaurant. Reflecting on the day. Did I really dance with the locals? I think I might have.
      • 8:00 PM - Back to the Jazz Suites. Soaking in the room. What a trip.

Day 3: Goodbye Kuching (Sniffle)

  • Morning:

    • 9:00 AM - Breakfast in the room! - The last breakfast in my apartment. I am going to miss the place..
    • 10:00 AM - Packing Up: Packing sucks, but, at least I have to get ready to leave.
    • 11:00 AM - Lunch/Goodbye: Farewell lunch at my favorite restaurant. A final laksa. Maybe a little shopping.
  • Afternoon:

    • 1:00 PM - Final stroll around, bought some gifts and things for family.
    • 2:00 PM - Heading to the airport to prepare for my flight.
  • Evening:

    • 4:00 PM - Waiting for my flight. Reflecting on an experience.
    • 7:00 PM - Arriving home.

Overall:

This isn't a perfect itinerary. It's a snapshot of my trip. Things will go wrong. You'll get lost. You'll sweat buckets. You might even encounter durian. But that's the fun of it, right? Kuching is incredible, the people are lovely, and the food? Well, let's just say I'm already planning my return. Next time, though? I'm bringing a hazmat suit. And maybe a gas mask, just in case.

Jazz Suites 1: Your Questions? (And My Honest Answers!)

1. Okay, spill the tea! Is Jazz Suites 1 *really* as amazing as the ads say?

Ugh, the ads, right? They're like, "Live your best life! Unlimited happiness!" Look, let's be real. It's *good*. Like, really good. But perfect? Nah. I’d say it's a solid 8/10. The pool is gorgeous, honestly. I spend way too much time there. One time, I was lounging, reading a book, and a HUGE pre-wedding photo shoot happened right in front of me. So dramatic! Distracted me from my Hemingway. So, yeah, beautiful, but not always peaceful. You have to accept that public spaces are... well, public.

I have a friend who moved in last week; she’s still in that "OMG, I live here!" phase, but I'm already thinking about the *real* issues, like the parking during the weekend, which can be a total nightmare. And the gym? Good enough, but seriously needs more mirrors. Gotta admire your gains!

2. The "Cozy & Chic" thing... is that just marketing fluff?

Okay, here's where it gets interesting. "Cozy" is... relative. My place, yes. It's a studio, and it's *tiny*. But it's also got a balcony, and I can see the city lights, which is actually pretty magical at night. "Chic?" Well, they've tried. The common areas are definitely well-designed – that lobby is seriously Instagrammable. But then you see the paint job in the hallway, and you're like, "Uh oh." A little rough around the edges, if you know what I mean

My neighbour, bless her heart, went full-on minimalist, and that's where the "Chic" comes in. She has like, *nothing*. Me? I'm the opposite. I have too much stuff, and the "cozy" vibe is more like "slightly cluttered but loved." So I'm not sure the the style will even work for everyone. It depend's on your style!

3. What's the neighbourhood like? Is it convenient? Safe?

Convenient? Yes! Everything is close by. I can walk to the supermarket, which is fantastic (especially when you're craving instant noodles at 2 a.m.). Tons of restaurants, cafes… you name it, it's there. I actually found my *favorite* laksa stall just a few blocks away. Amazing!

Safety? Generally, yes. There's security, and I haven't had any issues. But... I did hear a rumour that a cat got stuck in the elevator once. Luckily, someone rescued it! It was a dramatic scene which was entertaining because I saw how everyone was rushing to the rescue. But, you know, little things happen. You have to be aware, but I feel safe here.

4. The dreaded maintenance fees… How bad are they?

Okay, the fees. This is where I secretly started to cry a little bit when I read the contract. They're not *insane*, but they're definitely noticeable. I budget for it, but sometimes I do a little mental math during the month and go, "Ugh, that's a whole bubble tea I could have had!"

The upside is, the people who maintain the building are pretty responsive. My air conditioner went on the fritz a few weeks ago, and they fixed it super fast. But, it's like that old saying, "You get what you pay for." So, are the fees the best deal ever? Probably not. But are they reasonable for the services? Usually, yes. But it's a real consideration. Don't go in blind, and figure out what you can afford!

5. What's the social scene like? Making friends?

Okay, here's the thing. It's what *you* make it, really. I’ve met some cool people. There's a WhatsApp group for residents, which is a mix of useful information (like, "Hey, the water is off!") and random chatter. We even arranged a few get-togethers, but I don’t really go. The other day, I tried to strike up a conversation with the barista at the lobby café, because I saw him like, every day! Turns out, we had nothing in common. It was just...awkward.

I'm not the most outgoing person, and the younger crowd here are pretty into themselves, so I find it hard to mingle. I tend to meet my friends outside of the condo. If you're social, you'll *find* people. If you're a hermit like me, well, you might just end up waving to the same people every day without actually knowing their names. Like me!

6. Biggest pros and cons, in your totally honest opinion?

Okay, PROS: The location is key. The pool is a lifesaver during the Kuching heat. It's a new building, so everything *works* (usually). Love that the place is a stone's throw from almost anything you need. And that laksa! Seriously, to die for.

CONS: The parking can be a nightmare. The walls seem a little thin at times. The maintenance fees. The occasional cat-in-the-elevator drama. The lack of proper privacy on my balcony, because it isn't facing the best side! More than that, I am actually thinking of moving next year. However, I think I did well, and will do better next time!

Honestly, if you’re thinking about it, go check it out. Have a good, hard look at every detail. Then, decide if the good outweighs the bad. And then, maybe buy me a laksa. I'll tell you *everything*.

7. Should I buy it???

Look, I'm not a financial advisor! But I'd say, it depends on your life and stage of life. Do your homework! Look inside your heart, and think about it. It could be that you really like it. If you think that you will want it, you should definitely go for it!
